Our MissionThe goal of the Hampton Roads Foster/Adoptive Family Foundation (HRFAFF) is to preserve the placements of children living in foster/adoptive homes by supporting the entire family unit. We serve all of Southside Hampton Roads and the Peninsula. We offer the opportunity for parents to network with other adoptive/foster parents in their community. Our meetings are open to any foster/adoptive family or potential foster/adoptive family, and typically are composed of families who have adopted from the Department of Human Services, from private agencies, and/or internationally. There is no charge for participation. In an effort to provide family friendly services, meetings are held on Saturday mornings. Child care is provided and youth support programs are offered. Future goals include the development of specialized children’s groups and groups for adoptive parents of children with serious attachment problems. We welcome any individual to our group who has fostered and/or adopted as well as any interested individuals within the community such as birth parents, political figures, medical professionals, and/or media personalities. Foster and adoptive families have children placed with them and are often without the resources to help the children and to keep the placements intact. Many children in foster and adoptive homes have special needs including developmental delays, behavioral problems, ADHD/ADD, attachment disorder (RAD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), and other emotional issues. We want to give them the additional assistance they need and deserve. Our meetings are held from 10 to 12:30 on the third Saturday of each month, January through October, with special events in May for National Foster Care Month, and in November for National Adoption Awareness Month. We meet at the Norfolk Workforce Development Center, 201 East Little Creek Road (next to Kroger), Norfolk, VA 23505. Please click the calendar link for a schedule.
